Coaching FAQs

Person first. Runner second.
Every athlete comes to running with a different body, history, schedule, personality, stress load, support system, motivation and reason for doing this. That's why I don't believe great coaching starts with a training plan.
It starts with understanding the athlete.
My coaching is individualized and evidence-informed, with an emphasis on consistency, appropriate training stress, recovery, strength, communication and long-term development.
I believe easy days should serve a purpose. Hard days should serve a purpose. Rest should serve a purpose.
More isn't automatically better. Harder isn't automatically better.
At the same time, I believe we're often capable of more than we initially think.
Good coaching helps determine when it's time to push, when it's time to be patient, and when it's time to change the plan.
I want my athletes to become better runners, but I also want them to become more knowledgeable, confident and self-aware athletes along the way.
The goal isn't simply to follow a plan. It's to understand your training and find out what you're capable of.

You don't need to be "fast enough" to have a coach.
I work with runners across a wide range of experience and goals. Maybe you're trying to run your first 5K without stopping. Maybe you've fallen in and out of running and want to finally build consistency. Maybe you're training for your first half or full marathon. Or maybe you're an experienced runner wondering how much better you could get with more purposeful training.
You might be a good fit if you:
Have a race or goal you're excited about but aren't sure how to train for it
Want a plan built around your actual life instead of rearranging your life around a generic plan
Want to get faster without making every run harder
Struggle with consistency, accountability, pacing, fueling, recovery, or knowing when to push and when to back off
Want to understand why you're doing each workout
Have used generic plans before but want more feedback and individual attention
Are highly competitive and sometimes need someone to tell you that more isn't always better
Simply want to find out what you're capable of
